Ballarat has a problem most regional cities would like to have. It's grown quickly, largely on the back of people leaving Melbourne for a house they can afford and a commute they can live with, and the trades servicing that growth have more work than they can comfortably take. The constraint isn't finding customers. It's being findable by the right ones.
The building stock here is unusual for an Australian city of this size. Whole streets of Victorian and Federation housing survive intact, alongside the grand public architecture the gold rush paid for. That's beautiful to live among and demanding to maintain.
